ADHD, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder

I have ADHD myself, and I think that Autism and ADHD have genuinely beautiful parts to them, and beginning to appreciate those can really shift one's perspective.  I mean, they are totally ADA defined disabilities, and we shouldn't be surprised when they disable us (even though I swear every time I am).  Having these diagnoses doesn't mean our quality of life is any lower than someone else's, it just looks massively different. I work with people to identify what that massively different is, what a good life means and can look like, and how our diagnosis is only one part of our identity. The 'Sandwich" generation

The Sandwich Generation has been coined for those having to manage their own lives, work, their teens' and emerging adults (college age), and their aging parents. It can seem so small, and be so much to juggle. Often therapy looks a little different for these folks, as they are usually really adept at accomplishing things, and running households. But they struggle to take time for themselves, and really practice meaningful self care. (I mean, getting your nails done, or a fancy coffee is always nice, but it may not be the type of self care you need).  In therapy we look for what sustains the individual, where the deeper meaning is, and how to pick and choose priorities without regrets. 

Combatting Shame and low Self-Esteem

Trying to answer this question of "who am I?" is always a moving target.  I believe this is valuable life work for anyone, but especially for people whose life did not turn out the way they imagined.  A change in career, religion, a divorce, a move, can all spark this question and lead to general unrest. Other times, the identify work is to increase our self esteem, to live a less anxious life, and to battle shame that came with our childhood or other mental health disorders.  I'm talking to anyone who felt "weird," "different" or "something's wrong with me" at any point in their life.
